The Beginning of a Big Vision
Founded in 2012 by IIT and IIM alumni Shashank Kumar and Manish Kumar, DeHaat began with one clear goal — to solve the daily challenges faced by India’s small farmers. From poor access to quality seeds and fertilizers to limited crop guidance and market opportunities, DeHaat created a platform that brought all essential farming services under one roof. Starting as a small pilot in Bihar, Odisha, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, it gradually built trust among rural farmers.
How AI Changed Traditional Farming
DeHaat used artificial intelligence, satellite data, weather forecasting, and pest detection tools to help farmers make smarter decisions. With personalized crop-stage advice, farmers could reduce costs, improve productivity, and protect crops from diseases. This transformed farming from guesswork into data-driven decision-making.
Growth Across India
Today, DeHaat has become one of India’s largest agritech platforms, serving over 1.8 million farmers across 12 states through 11,000+ DeHaat Centers and 503 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). By combining digital technology with local service centers, the platform created a strong bridge between farmers, inputs, and markets.
A Powerful Lesson for Agritech Startups
DeHaat’s success shows that real transformation happens when technology solves ground-level farmer problems. Its journey is a major inspiration for platforms like Kisan360.in, proving that trust, innovation, and farmer-first solutions can build the future of Indian agriculture.
