Empowering Rural Economies: AP Chambers Hosts Hands-On Mushroom Cultivation Workshop in Guntur

AP Chambers hold mushroom cultivation meet

In a powerful move to boost rural entrepreneurship and create sustainable income streams, the Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) Central Zone Women’s Wing recently organized a highly successful, one-day workshop on mushroom cultivation in Guntur.

Part of an ongoing skill development initiative, this workshop reflects AP Chambers' continuous dedication over the past year to equip women and youth across the state with practical, market-ready skills. By focusing on accessible agricultural ventures, the initiative aims to open new doors for self-employment and financial independence.

The training session was led by B. Jyotsna, the proprietor of Hyderabad-based Srikara Integrated Agri Innovations. Around 40 eager participants attended the workshop, gaining valuable hands-on experience in cultivating three distinct commercial varieties: Oyster, Button, and Milky mushrooms.

Throughout the day, attendees learned critical technical skills necessary for running a successful farming operation, including:

  • The 'Waste-to-Wealth' Approach: Utilizing readily available paddy straw as a cultivation substrate, turning agricultural waste into a high-value product.

  • Sterilization Techniques: Understanding the precise methods needed to eliminate contaminants and ensure healthy crop yields.

  • Climate Management: Mastering the art of maintaining optimal temperature and humidity levels for year-round growth.

Beyond technical know-how, the workshop addressed one of the biggest hurdles for any new entrepreneur—market access. Participants were introduced to a direct buy-back opportunity, providing them with a reliable market linkage and giving them the financial confidence to start production immediately.

Mushroom farming stands out as an incredibly lucrative business because it requires very little land, boasts high nutritional value, and delivers year-round profitability. Thanks to the seamless execution by AP Chambers leadership—including Central Zone Vice Chairperson Sakku Madhavi and Women’s Wing Chairperson Mamatha Rayapati—alongside support from the Purnachandra Foundation, VVIT University, and Aaditri Properties, local women and youth are now fully equipped to step confidently into agribusiness.
